Music... thumping them pagan skins!
Music- From Bob Dylan, the Clash and the Beatles I draw inspiration
and courage. Their influence means I never worry about looking silly.
Dylan and the Beatles have recorded some pretty dumb songs, and if it’s
good enough for them...well?
Another huge influence on me when I started working solo was Alt Country
or Americana music. When I heard the first Wilco album and subsequent music
by Alejando Escovedo, Buddy & Julie Miller, Lucinda Williams, the Gourds
and Drive By Truckers, I felt rejuvenated. I felt like I came home.
I was excited to find out that many Alt Country performers were ex-punk
rockers like me. It was this music that caused me to pick up the squeeze box,
the mandolin and the acoustic guitar. I even dusted off my Uncle Pliny’s
75-year-old harp. The Alt Country influence is more apparent on some of my albums than on others. My newest work reflects more rock and blues influences.
I’m not through yet – I look forward to writing and recording many more songs.
And wherever the music takes me, the question I ask is: "what would Joe (Strummer) do?"
This site features my catalog of music
from my days with the T-Snakes and The Jerusalem to my current solo work.
The focus of this site is my solo recordings. However, I never forget the past or old friends.
I will unearth musical gems from the endless gorilla house archives. |
