The Jerusalem a.k.a. The Next Big Thing
After the T-Snakes disbanded I formed a band called The Jerusalem,
with the T-Snake’s lead singer and her husband. With them, I learned
how to co-write songs. I learned about production and home recording.
It was really a "college" for my solo career.
The Jerusalem, also known as "The Next Big Thing" was a trio and
depended upon heavily sequenced drum and keyboard parts for its
thickly layered tracks. The technology was somewhat restrictive for
the music and eventually we moved toward more organic tracks.
Cherie Barton - vocals,recorder
Mike Mitch -guitars
Todd Zimmerman -bass,keyboards,drum programs
The Jerusalem was really all about recording as a creative process.
The songs evolved out of the recording process as much or more
than from the performance process. At the time the live music scene
in Kalamazoo was minimal, but the group was a pleasure to work
with even with a limited outlet for the music.
